TEMPLE OF HOLY MARY - THERISOS
A divine maternal eye overlooking the rebellious village.
In Therisos, located at the central square of the village and under a huge plane tree stands the church of Holy Mary. At this site there is also the tomb of Stefanos Halis, who is a hero for Crete that fought during the 1820-1822 and died for Crete at the battle of Aliakes on the 25 th of July, 1822. Every summer on the 15th of August, the name day of Holy Maria is celebrated at every church named after her. At Therisos, there is also a local feast being held with Cretan music, treat and local delicacies.
