GORGES
In millions of years, the circle of water has left its footprint on this enduring land, creating unique rock formations, gorges, cliffs, peaks, caves, river paths and fertile delta rivers.
This mountainous island has witnessed floods and droughts, snowstorms, earthquakes, tides and low tides for centuries on end. In the words of ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus, “all is flux, nothing stays”, the current geomorphological state of the rocky island of Crete is the result of the continuous water flow and active tectonic movement. High peaks, steep and long gorges, fertile valleys and serpentine coasts with remote coves and beaches compose a very rich and diverse natural environment in a condensed area. One would presume that most visitors of Chania travel for the beaches. However there is great number of travelers who visit Chania for its mountainous beauties.
