Following my academic studies and coming back to Chania, I took my first cooking lessons alongside a brilliant restauranteur who owns one of the most well-known restaurants in Chania city. It was during that time that I suddenly realized the grandeur of the Cretan diet and how much I personally enjoy and take pride in sharing the food I make, as part of an overall cultural experience that is so authentic and genuine. As Cretans, the food, its flavors and scents play a central role in our culture. Its methodic preparation and serving it on a table where everyone gathered around can share and enjoy, called ‘mazoxi) is of utmost importance.
“As a savvy observer, I collected information, knowledge and experience and brought to life an idea that was swirling in my mind for a long time.”
I decided to set up a culinary business, whose concept is based upon the promotion of the Cretan cuisine, through a series of experiences such as cooking, conducting independent seminars or collaborating with local businesses and tours around the city. My goal is to spread the word of the highly nutritional value as well as the tastefulness of Cretan gastronomy and hopefully to contribute, as much as I can, to the growth of culinary tourism in Chania. This crossroad of civilizations between the East and the West, the North and the South, should definitely be put and highlighted on the global culinary map. The land and sea provides us with products of premium quality and our recipes come a long way back in history with influences from many different parts of the world. Cretan tastes are unforgettable.
